Life is hard and beautiful simultaneously. Earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, my artwork has always played on this duality – growing from our hard times and focusing on the joy.
Through a contemporary abstract approach, I embrace the process and imperfections. I create harmony and beauty from the chaos. Using bold marks and colors, vigorous strokes, focusing on the process and reacting to the painting as I work, I paint intuitively. My work is most often acrylic with layers of charcoal, graphite, ink and oil. When a piece comes together the marks, the texture, the colors act as key elements used to develop emotionally-charged atmospheres, creating balance and calm from the chaos.
My artwork is created in my rural farmhouse studio in Saint Olaf, Iowa, and has found homes throughout the world. When I’m not in the studio, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, photography, being active in the community and most importantly – being mom to my little girl.
I’d be honored if you’d follow along with me on social media.
