Elissa is a ceramic artist whose work derives from synthesizing landscape imagery, whether imagined or taken from reality. She intends to personify forms that exude a sense of energy, a sense of vitality, a sense of rawness, of beauty or sublime decadence; exploring the gap between the ordinary and extraordinary.
Currently, I am working on a body of work that explores domestic objects and ceramics history. My work has always explored natural forms and delicacy, and I am curious to see how I can create natural forms that move into the domestic setting. The idea of home intrigues me in the role that I balance between being a mother and an artist. I am asking myself how objects can create a sense of beauty, wellness, and contentment.
Elissa lives in Fayette, IA with husband.
